عزيزي المشجع الاتحادي، سواء كنت في مدينة جدة أو في أي مدينة حول العالم، لا أدري إن كنت تعلم أن الثالث من أغسطس هو اليوم العالمي للبطيخ، وهو يوم تحتفل به بعض الدول بهذه الفاكهة الصيفية، وأحسب - من باب السخرية لا أكثر - أن إدارة ناديك كانت من أوائل المحتفلين بهذه المناسبة، وربما خصّت البطيخ بتقدير استثنائي؛ لأنه أدى لها خدمات جليلة، ولعل أبرزها أنه أصبح يتناغم تماماً مع الوعود والمواعيد التي يترقبها عشاق العميد على «أحرّ من الجمر»، دون أن يروا لها أثراً على أرض الواقع، رغم أن النادي مقبل على استحقاقات مهمة تبدأ في الحادي عشر من أغسطس بمواجهة قارية أمام الجزيرة الإماراتي، ثم خمس مباريات متتالية في دوري روشن، الذي شاءت الصدفة أن ينطلق أيضاً في شهر أغسطس.

- لهذا الاحتفال - إن صح التعبير - خصوصية داخل نادي الاتحاد تختلف عن بقية الشركات الرياضية المملوكة لصندوق الاستثمارات العامة، إذ يبدو أن القائمين على إدارة النادي وجدوا في البطيخ خير معبّر عن واقعهم، فهو ينسجم تماماً مع المثل المصري الشهير: «حط في بطنك بطيخة صيفي».

- والأجمل أنهم - بقصد أو دونه، والله أعلم - يتقاسمون الأدوار بإتقان في تطبيق هذا المثل. فالإدارة الحالية - هداها الله وأصلح شأنها - رفعت سقف طموحات جماهير الاتحاد في اجتماع رئيس النادي مع الإعلاميين، ووعود بميزانية ضخمة، ومدرب عالمي، وصفقات محلية وأجنبية وشركات أجنبية تستثمر في هذا النادي تعيد الفريق إلى مكانه الطبيعي، وأكدت هذه الإدارة إصرارها على الاستمرار في إدارة النادي. لكن المشجع الاتحادي البسيط عاش مع هذه الوعود على قاعدة: «حط في بطنك بطيخة صيفي»، من دون أن يعرف الحكاية الكاملة لهذا المثل الشعبي، ولا أسباب انتشاره، ولا كثرة استخدامه.

- يُقال هذا المثل حسب الروايات الشعبية غالباً للتسويف و«التسليك»، بقصد تهدئة الأعصاب، وإراحة الرأس من كثرة الأسئلة، وصناعة شعور زائف بالاطمئنان تجاه أمر قد لا يتحقق أصلاً، أو لا أحد يعلم متى سيتحقق، فعندما تطلب من مسؤول، أو موظف، أو أي شخص إنجاز أمر مهم، أو تطلب منه أن يطمئنك على قضية تشغل بالك، وتخشى عواقبها، قد يقابلك بابتسامة عريضة، ويقول بكل ثقة: «حط في بطنك بطيخة صيفي»، ثم تكتشف لاحقاً أنه نسي الموضوع تماماً، أو تجاهله، أو لم يكن يعنيه من الأساس، بينما كان هو وحده من وضع في بطنه البطيخة الصيفية، ونام قرير العين، غير عابئ بما يترتب على الآخرين. وهذا - في تقديري - هو حال نادي الاتحاد اليوم، شكلاً ومضموناً، بل إن الأمر لا يقف عند حدود تطبيق المثل الشعبي، وإنما يمتد - مجازاً - إلى الاحتفال الحقيقي باليوم العالمي للبطيخ، وتحديداً في الجزء المتعلق بأثقل بطيخة في العالم.

- فبحسب ما اطلعت عليه، فإن الرقم القياسي المسجل في موسوعة غينيس يعود إلى عام 2013، حين بلغ وزن أثقل بطيخة 159 كيلوغراماً، أما بطيخة الاتحاد - وأقول ذلك افتراضاً ومن باب السخرية فقط - فأظن أنها تجاوزت هذا الرقم بكيلوغرام إضافي على الأقل، ليس لأنها أكبر حجماً، وإنما لأنها أثقل بالوعود، وأكثر امتلاءً بالتأجيل، حتى إنها فقدت طعمها، ولم تعد صالحة للأكل، بخلاف بطيخة المزارع الأمريكي كريس كينت، التي كانت على الأقل بطيخة حقيقية.

- وقبل الختام، أعتذر، عزيزي القارئ، عن هذه الجولة الطويلة في عالم البطيخ بمناسبة يومه العالمي، وأرجو أن تكون قد استمتعت بها أكثر مما استفدت من فوائد هذه الفاكهة، ويبقى عندي رجاء واحد: إذا قال لك أحد يوماً «حط في بطنك بطيخة صيفي»، فلا تطمئن كثيراً، فقد تكون بداية انتظار طويل، تماماً كما حدث لجماهير الاتحاد الصابرة، التي ما زالت تنتظر، بينما لا تزال الوعود معلقة، والبطيخة في مكانها لم تتحرك.

- همسة أخيرة:

أما جماهير الاتحاد فلم يعد ينقصها بطيخ، بل مواعيد تُحترم، ووعود تُنفذ، وصمتٌ يتحول إلى عمل قبل أن يبدأ الموسم، وقبل أن يصبح اليوم العالمي للبطيخ مناسبة سنوية يحتفل بها الاتحاديون أكثر من احتفالهم بالبطولات.

Dear Union fans, whether you are in the city of Jeddah or in any city around the world, I don’t know if you are aware that August 3rd is the International Watermelon Day, a day celebrated by some countries for this summer fruit. I assume - in a sarcastic manner, of course - that the management of your club was among the first to celebrate this occasion, perhaps giving watermelon an exceptional appreciation; because it has served them well, and perhaps the most notable service is that it has harmonized perfectly with the promises and deadlines that the fans of Al-Ittihad are eagerly awaiting, without seeing any trace of them in reality, despite the club approaching important commitments starting on August 11 with a continental match against Al-Jazeera from the UAE, followed by five consecutive matches in the Roshen League, which coincidentally also starts in August.

- This celebration - if I may call it that - has a particular significance within Al-Ittihad Club that differs from other sports companies owned by the Public Investment Fund, as it seems that those managing the club found in watermelon a good expression of their reality, as it aligns perfectly with the famous Egyptian proverb: “Put a watermelon in your belly.”

- What’s even more amusing is that they - whether intentionally or not, God knows - share the roles perfectly in applying this proverb. The current management - may God guide them and rectify their affairs - has raised the ceiling of hopes for Al-Ittihad fans in the president's meeting with journalists, promising a huge budget, a world-class coach, local and foreign signings, and foreign companies investing in this club to restore the team to its rightful place. This management has confirmed its determination to continue managing the club. However, the simple Al-Ittihad fan has lived with these promises based on the principle: “Put a watermelon in your belly,” without knowing the full story behind this popular saying, nor the reasons for its spread, nor its frequent use.

- This proverb is often said according to popular narratives to procrastinate and “smooth things over,” intending to calm nerves, relieve the mind from excessive questions, and create a false sense of reassurance regarding a matter that may not be realized at all, or no one knows when it will be realized. When you ask an official, or an employee, or anyone to accomplish an important matter, or you ask them to reassure you about an issue that occupies your mind, and you fear its consequences, they may greet you with a broad smile and confidently say: “Put a watermelon in your belly,” only for you to later discover that they completely forgot about the matter, or ignored it, or it never concerned them in the first place, while they alone were the ones who put the watermelon in their belly and slept soundly, indifferent to what others might face. This - in my opinion - is the state of Al-Ittihad Club today, in form and substance. In fact, the matter does not stop at the application of the popular proverb, but extends - metaphorically - to the real celebration of the International Watermelon Day, specifically in the part related to the heaviest watermelon in the world.

- According to what I have seen, the record registered in the Guinness World Records dates back to 2013, when the weight of the heaviest watermelon reached 159 kilograms. As for Al-Ittihad's watermelon - and I say this hypothetically and in a sarcastic manner only - I believe it has surpassed this number by at least an additional kilogram, not because it is larger in size, but because it is heavier with promises and more filled with postponements, to the extent that it has lost its taste and is no longer fit for consumption, unlike the watermelon of American farmer Chris Kent, which was at least a real watermelon.

- Before concluding, I apologize, dear reader, for this long journey in the world of watermelon on the occasion of its international day, and I hope you enjoyed it more than you benefited from the advantages of this fruit. I have one last request: if someone ever tells you, “Put a watermelon in your belly,” don’t be too reassured, as it might be the beginning of a long wait, just like what happened to the patient Al-Ittihad fans, who are still waiting, while the promises remain hanging, and the watermelon is in place, unmoved.

- A final whisper:

As for Al-Ittihad fans, they no longer lack watermelons, but rather respect for deadlines, fulfilled promises, and silence that turns into action before the season starts, and before the International Watermelon Day becomes an annual occasion celebrated by Al-Ittihad fans more than their celebration of championships.
