بين جدران مبنى متهالك في حي «كيبسيلي» الهادئ بالعاصمة اليونانية، لم يكن المشرد الذي دخل المكان يسعى سوى لملجأ يقيه قسوة الشارع، لكنه وجد نفسه أمام كابوس سينمائي؛ جثة هامدة لسائحة ثلاثينية حُشرت داخل حقيبة سفر، في جريمة غامضة استنفرت أجهزة الأمن في ثلاث دول.
تكشفت خيوط الفاجعة عقب تعقب الشرطة اليونانية مقاطع كاميرات المراقبة، التي قادت لفك لغز مقتل المواطنة الأسكتلندية إليزابيث جين روس (38 عاماً)، الشهيرة بـ «ليزا». وأسفرت التحريات عن توقيف شاب أفغاني (26 عاماً)، انهمرت اعترافاته لاحقاً أمام المحققين؛ إذ أقر بنقل جثة الضحية داخل الحقيبة والتخلص منها بعد رحيلها بنحو أسبوع، قبل أن يستولي على بطاقتها المصرفية ويشرع في سحب أموالها.
ولم تقف تفاصيل الجريمة عند هذا الحد؛ إذ كشفت التحقيقات أن الهاتف المحمول لـ «ليزا» استُخدم بعد وفاتها لإرسال رسائل نصية يوهم فيها المجهولُ عائلتَها بأنها ما تزال على قيد الحياة. وأثناء مداهمة منزل المتهم، ضبطت السلطات سكيناً ومسدساً زائفاً، لتوجّه إليه تهم القتل والسرقة وحيازة أسلحة.
وتشير سجلات السفر إلى أن «ليزا»، القادمة من إدنبرة، وصلت إلى اليونان في أواخر يونيو، ونزلت ضيفة على أصدقاء في منطقة «كيراتسيني» حتى منتصف يوليو، قبل أن تغادر متجهة لالتقاء «أصدقاء أمريكيين» في كيبسيلي، وهم الأشخاص الذين تلاحقهم الشرطة حالياً. وفيما تُنسق السلطات اليونانية مع نظيراتها في بريطانيا والولايات المتحدة، ينتظر الجميع نتائج فحوصات السموم والطب الشرعي لمعرفة السر الدقيق لوفاتها.
Within the walls of a dilapidated building in the quiet neighborhood of "Kipseli" in the Greek capital, the homeless man who entered the place was only seeking shelter from the harshness of the street, but he found himself facing a cinematic nightmare; the lifeless body of a thirty-something tourist stuffed inside a suitcase, in a mysterious crime that mobilized security forces in three countries.
The threads of the tragedy unraveled after the Greek police tracked surveillance camera footage, which led to solving the mystery of the murder of Scottish citizen Elizabeth Jane Ross (38 years old), known as "Lisa." The investigations resulted in the arrest of a 26-year-old Afghan man, whose confessions later poured out before the investigators; he admitted to transporting the victim's body inside the suitcase and disposing of it about a week after her death, before seizing her bank card and starting to withdraw her money.
The details of the crime did not stop there; investigations revealed that "Lisa's" mobile phone was used after her death to send text messages in which an unknown person misled her family into believing that she was still alive. During a raid on the suspect's home, authorities seized a knife and a fake gun, charging him with murder, theft, and possession of weapons.
Travel records indicate that "Lisa," who came from Edinburgh, arrived in Greece in late June and stayed with friends in the "KiraTsin" area until mid-July, before leaving to meet "American friends" in Kipseli, who are the individuals currently being pursued by the police. While Greek authorities coordinate with their counterparts in Britain and the United States, everyone is awaiting the results of toxicology and forensic examinations to determine the exact cause of her death.
